He's Officially Ours!

Today has been all about bonding and getting to know Jaxon and completing the required paperwork. We went back to the Civil Affairs office this morning to sign all the paperwork, go through two interviews and to finalize the adoption. Are we happy with this child?—are you kidding me—he is the best. Do you promise to never abandon him? We love him with all our heart and no, we will never abandon him. Sounds pretty easy right—yes, it was, but it was the same 50 families from yesterday all doing the same thing as us and it was hot, b/c have I mentioned that the Chinese aren’t real big into air conditioning. Before leaving this morning, we were downstairs completing some paperwork with our guide and we realized that I had forgotten my gifts for the day so I left to head back up to the room. Upon returning, Eric and Helen, our guide, informed me that Jax was clearly distressed/ upset that I had walked away. That is an excellent sign that he is bonding to me. Also, upon arriving at the Civil Affairs office this morning, Jax became visible upset, tears and all. We think he may have thought he was having to back and didn’t want to. Another excellent sign that he is bonding to us!

Jax has eaten very well for us today, but still has yet to poop. This is something we have to watch especially since his diet has changed . He ate watermelon, scrambled eggs and porridge for breakfast and tuna and banana for lunch. (Update—he pooped! Woo Hoo)

He is smiling very easily with us today. He is very ticklish and is really taking to Abigayle. Every time we are on the first floor, he points to the Koi pond as he wants to go and see the fish. He loves to go bye-bye and either walk or be carried. We haven’t tried the stroller yet, maybe tomorrow. He loves M&M’s and tackling/ wrestling with Abi.

We all took a good nap today. Jax began to cry when I laid him down, so I laid down next to him and we held hands until he fell asleep-which only took about two minutes. Since waking up from his nap, he is really laughing out loud, saying words-mostly in Chinese and playing with Abi.

We had dinner with other adopting families tonight at a really nice Chinese restaurant. Funny enough though, when you walk in the restaurant, there are probably 30 different ‘seafood’ ‘tanks’ that you can choose your dinner from. Mmmmmm, fresh. Our group opted for ‘safe’ chicken, beef , rice and eggplant dishes. It was really quite yummy.

Guess that is all, until tomorrow……….
