Over Thanksgiving we, along with the Barretts and Mom ventured to Disney for a fun filled family vacation. Here is a small sampling of our adventures. The weather was prefect and we even got to get in the pool for two afternoons. Jax absolutely loved driving the cars and Abi was thrilled that she and Rapunzel had on matching dresses. Seeing the excitement on our kids faces was priceless. An added bonus was having Abi's China sister Hannah come and spend the day with us in Animal Kingdom.

Jax's second most favorite Christmas gift.

Playing in the sand is fun, no BUTTS about it, according to Abi, Jax, Kenlie, Malorie and Evie

New Year's Eve was spent on Lake Limestone. All immediate family was present and accounted for: As there still has not been any significant rain, the 'beach' is even bigger and more wonderful. We spent a lot of time walking, enjoying each others company drawing and digging. Uncle Harvey unlocked the seond drive gate and Jax spent hours driving his dune buggy round and around the house and shed. Evening brought about a big bon fire courtesy of Uncle Harvey while Mark and Eric provided us with a fabulous fire works show from the beach. 91 year old G-ma and 4 year old Jax enjoyed their very first smores. It was a great time --as usual and we can't wait to go back and do it all over again.

The Nutcracker

Each year Abi's dance studio puts on a Christmas time production of The Nutcracker. Abi auditioned and was given the part of a mouse. Every weekend for approximately 10 weeks, we went to Sunday rehearsals. It was worth everything to see our sweet Abi scamper around on the stage. She was soooo excited and we were so proud of her.

Abigayle's dance studio hosted a Sugar Plum Tea Party to teach the kiddos about the story of The Nutcracker. The studio was decorated in pink and included pink punch and pink cupcakes. Abi and I invited cousin Evie to go with us and then we met Kerry and Ava there. It was a very special mommy- daughter- aunt day.

Annual Fall Fun at Lake Limestone

Aunt Ann and Uncle Harvey choose to be brave for yet another year and invited all the great nieces and nephews up for a weekend of fall fun. Activities included painting pumpkins, digging in the dirt, flower arranging, stuffing pumpkins, getting stuck in the mud, searching for deer, eating scary deserts, playing in various forms of water, sand angels, decorating cupcakes, and of course playing in the sand on their HUGE beach. The sand dunes were super fabulous. Lake Limestone is down--don't know how far, but there is probably 30 yards of beach.

Well it appears that the weather has finally changed here in Texas. For some of you, I should define change--our hundred degree days appear to be gone. Thank goodness for September. In August, 30/31 days were over 100*, with most being 102 and higher. I never knew 93 could feel so good. Anyhow, tonight in an effort to save our dying yard, I turned the sprinkler on in the backyard--you can see how dry it is........ Jax, doing what any good natured boy would do, immediately started playing in it.

Our precious Abi was having nothing to do with that. She was happy playing on the swing.

And finally, Because it is down to the upper 80's, Jax decided he was cold after playing in the water and needed to get his cold pants off. I will let you guess as to how far down he striped!

Yeah, Abi had a great first day! She woke with a smile on her face and was great until we got in her class and she didn't know anyone. I could see and sense her apprehension. We decided to go potty and on the way back, we ran into her friend from last year. They grabbed each other's hand and off to class they went. All apprehension was gone.

I know, I know, I probably have her overdressed for her first day, she is trying hard to grow up, but she is still my little girl. She has already picked out her outfit for tomorrow and it is much for 1st gradeish. Stay tuned.

Getting ready for 1st grade

As a special treat in anticipation of starting first grade tomorrow, I took Abi to get her toes and nails done. She chose pink for her nails and orange for her toes. We actually got matching toes. Exciting stuff! The cloths are out, the lunch box is packed, and we are currently working on the bath. Abi--we hope you have a great 1st grade. We know you are going to be wonderful and make lots of new friends.

PS--Eric went to check on how the baths were coming. He requested my assistance--uh oh, this probably isn't going to be good. Guess what--they had a tub full of bubbles. No big deal except that we ran out of bubbles a few weeks ago. Hmmmmm, could it be that they emptied the entire bottle of body wash that we just bought today. Yes, that could be it. My kids are now squeeky clean.

A few weeks ago, Jax decided he wanted to sleep in the guest room. After doing that for two nights, Abi decided to join him. Ever since then, they have been enjoying the comfy, cozy guest bed. The other night, while making sure all the doors were locked etc before going to bed, Eric went to check on the kids one last time. He came back telling me that I absolutely had to go look at them. This is what I saw. Jax holding Abi's hand while sleeping. How sweet it that?

PS While I am normally a stickler that kids need to sleep in their own beds, since moving to the 'red bed', Jax is sleeping through the whole night. No 1 AM or 2 AM or 3 AM or 4 AM visits.

The kids, daddy and I are obsessed with collecting all the Sm*rf figurines that McD*onalds is giving away in their happy meals. Abi and Jax have actually been watching Sm*urfs on TV for a while. We even DVR all episodes. While we have not yet seen the movie (we are waiting for it to not be as popular so the theatre won't be so crowded), we are anxious to go. So far we have collected PaPa Sm*urf, Sm*rfette, Handy, Farmer, Clumsy, Jokey, and Hefty. 7 down, 11 to go.

We have a great water park, Splash Town, like 5 minutes from our house. Let's just say that we have gotten great use out of our season passes this summer.

Oh well.Jax loved riding the slides with Aunt Bug, Mom, Kenlie and Malorie, but refused to go by himself...........So, Kenlie recommended that she get on the slide with him like they are going to go together and then just push him. Um, OK, I will catch him at the bottom. Luckily he came sliding down with a big smile on his face and wanted to go again and again and again.

New Construction

Eric, out of the blue, well, kind-of, he has been talking about it for a while, decided to start building the kiddos a fort. Last weekend, without plans or a drawing or anything, he began the construction. However, I should have never doubted his abilities, b/c he is doing a bang up job. Little helper Abi is never far from site.

Jax was sad, not because he had just flown off the slide onto his bum, but b/c we had run out of his favorite cereal Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Apple Jacks just wasn't doing the trick.

The Eyes of Texas--over Jax

For Christmas, Jax was given a stick horse, well a stick Longhorn. He and Abi have had many good times riding the Longhorn around the house. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, the stick came out of the head. Now, on many days, Jax still trots around the house with the Longhorn head--its kind of creepy. Anyhow, tonight he was a bit jealous that Abi was having all the pics taken of her, so here is little man in bed with the Eyes of the Longhorn watching over him.

Snaggle Mouth

Abi has had a second tooth loose almost since she lost her first tooth. Yesterday, her tooth fairy pillow finally arrived in the mail. Thank Goodness! We were officially ready for the tooth fairy this time. Tonight at dinner, I attempted to pull it, although, not really hard. This would be my first tooth to pull and I didn't want to rip it out of her sweet little mouth and traumatize her. What I should have taken a picture of was Eric cringing and almost gagging at what I was doing--what a wuss. Next thing I know, Abi says, look, my tooth. She had reached down and pulled it out herself. Darn, I missed pulling the first and now the second one! I made her promise that I could pull the third one. However, the rest of her teeth are snugged tightly in her mouth--no movement on the horizon. This is it for a while. We immediately put the tooth in her pillow and it is ready for the fairy tonight. I wonder what a second tooth is going to be worth??????

All Abi has talked about recently is loosing a tooth. I am guessing there is a lot of that going on in Kindergarten right now. She had all but decided she would loose her first tooth on her 6th birthday, when low and behold, she finally got a loose tooth. She was uber excited and the build up to it coming out was so much fun. We just happen to have had a dentist appointment planned and as the hygienist was cleaning her teeth, it just happen to fall out. I had no idea until Abi walked over to me with a little pink box. I missed the whole thing. I was disappointed for me, but excited for her. Unfortunately, Abi, uh hum, we, forgot to leave it out the first night. We finally got our act together and left it out the second night. Abi stated that the going rate was $6.00 for a first tooth, but she would rather have a present. The tooth fairy rewarded her with $2.00 and Barbie Fairy Princess whom she has been asking for.

Kindergarten Musical

Last night we went to watch Abigayle and all the other Kindergartners perform the musical Bugz. She was in the choir and got to wear antenna's. I remember watching the Kindergarten performance last year at Kindergarten Roundup and crying knowing that Abi would soon be doing the same thing. Congrats sweet girl, you and all your friends did a great job.

Today was cookie dough pick up day. (Our first fundraiser, we were so excited) I knew we had sold a lot, but little did I know how much we, ah hem, Abigayle had sold. We loaded up when Eric got home from work and went up to Abi's school. What a reception we got, when we walked in. Come to find out, Abigayle was the top salesGirl for the WHOLE school. Wow! And for all her, ah hem, our hard work, we got to bring home this lovely dog whom we have named Woofie. Congratulations Abigayle, ah hem, Mommy and Daddy on all your hard work.

Easter Bunny

Eric and I took the kids for their annual picture with the Easter Bunny this morning. I thought for sure, I was going to get a good picture. As we were waiting in line, Jax was so excited, yelling Hi Easter Bunny and in an all around great mood. However, his mood soon changed when he realized I was telling the truth about sitting on his lap. Yeah, he wasn't having it. He barely agreed to sit besides his sister, but he did none the less. On the other hand, Abi crawled up and gave him a big hug. That's my girl!

So, while Abi and her friend Peyton were riding scooters, Jax decided to commandeer Abi's bike. In no time at all, he was pedaling down the street and he only took one 'small' spill. OK, I know, the bike is pink and purple. Looks like we will be making a trip to Toys R Us soon. I mean, really, how many girl toys can one boy ride. Presently, he enjoys Abi's pink jeep, her Princess scooter and now her Princess bike. Oy.

Julie and I ventured with all five kiddos to Sea World to visit Shamu, Dolly Dolphin, the butterfly acrobats, seals, penguins and walruses. We all had an amazing time. Kenlie and I got to sneak off and ride the Steel Eel. Julie, Kenlie, Evie and Abi got to ride the Journey to Atlantis. And Jax, he got to ride the Merry Go Round and swinging Fish.

Key West

Eric and I ventured to Key West for 5 days of R&R. We parked our car when we got there and didn't see it again until we left 5 days later. We rented bikes and cruised the island in style everywhere we needed/ wanted to go. Of course, we hit all the hot spots including Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, Turtle Krawls, and Sloppy Joe's. We got to go snorkeling twice, eat lots of amazing fish dishes and enjoy the most amazing sunsets together. We actually flew into Ft. Lauterdale and drove down the Keys. This drive was on my bucket list, so I can now officially check that off. Next for me--sky-diving!

Science Fair

Can you believe that Kindergartners are required to do Science Fair? Wow--guess this is what I have to look forward to for many more years to come. The Kindergartners topic was Sorting and or Classifying. The could choose whatever object they wanted and sort by color, size, shape, etc. I offered Abi colored nilla wafers, No, colored gold fish, NO, blocks, NO, frogs (we have a game that has a ton of little colored frogs), No, buttons, NO, crystals, YES. Finally, she agrees. We went to Hobby Lobby and bought a big bucket of crystals and went to work. All I did was cover the box, tape in the dividers and arrange the letters in order. She did all the gluing, sorting and pasting of the title. I think she did a fabulous job!

The Year of the Rabbit. We ventured out to Pei Wei even though we were expecting 5 inches of snow--but that's another story--we got NOTHING. Both kids loved using their chop sticks and receiving their red envelopes of money for good luck in the new year.

I have to admit, I was worried, well maybe just wondering how our visit to Santa was going to go this year. Abi, eager as could be, walked right up and crawled in his lap. Jax, on the other hand, needed a bit of, um, persuading. I took him and was trying to show him how soft Santa's coat was. So, yeah, that really wasn't working. Santa, being Santa, offered Jax a high five and that did it. Jax high fived back and I plopped him on his lap and lept away. So, Jax isn't smiling, but he is not screaming either. All in all a great visit. Abi asked for makeup and a barbie. Jax never got around to discussing his list--he was out of there.

I know, I know-his birthday is in December and he is in shorts. Well, we took the pictures in October--I was organized at that time, and it was still really nice outside. The 'Hawaiian' outfit was the first outfit Eric picked out for Jax way back in March 2010, long before he came home to us. The sailboat was the first outfit I picked out for him. Isn't he just the most handsomest (is that at word?) little boy.

A few weeks ago, we shared in the honor of celebrating Jaxon's 3rd birthday.

Party #1 was held at our house with family. Hamburgers, hot dogs and of course a Micky Mouse cake. Jax accidentally stuck his foot in the cake during pictures--apparently the icing tastes as good on toes as it does on the cake! For a boy who has never celebrated a birthday, he knew right what to do with the presents. Happy Birthday sweet boy--you have completed our family and we are grateful for all the gifts you give to us on a daily basis.

Once again, I thought my kiddos were playing nicely, quietly in their rooms. Jax comes running out with a roll of coins--hmmmmm, where did he get that. Abi--what are y'all doing? We're playing store. Again, hmmmmm. I go to check out their 'store', only to find they have robbed Abi's piggy bank, torn open all the coin rolls and are literally, 'Rollin in the Dough'.

Fall Fun

It has become a tradition to take all the 'great nieces' (Kenlie, Malorie, Evie and Abigayle) and now, one 'great nephew' (Jax) to Aunt Ann and Uncle Harvey's for a weekend of crafts, and 'mule' rides. Unfortunatly, this weekend was a short one due to previously scheduled activities, but none the less, we all had a great time. We made spooky bats to hang in our houses, googly eye wreaths, and picture frames. We decorated cupcakes, played cards and rocked in the hammock. We rode and drove 'the mule' till it had to be re-charged. We played on the 'beach', b/c the lake water was down (My boy is a digger). And finally, we enjoyed 4 wheeler rides from Daddy/ Uncle Eric. Jax was asleep b/4 we made it off the bumpy roads when le left for home.

Thanks for a wonderful weekend. We love yall!

Pumpkin Carving

Each year, Abi and Eric have a big pumpkin carving party. They each picked out their design and went to work. Jax got in on the fun of digging out the 'guts' of the pumpkins.

Abi is learnign how to use the carving knife.

Mismatched

This week as school has been 'Say no to drugs week'. Each day, the kids have been asked to wear a particular type of clothing in support. Today was mismatch day--wear mismatched cloths. Abi was more than thrilled and excited to get to wear two different colored shoes. Last night, she started reciting some of the things they have been taught: "No smoking", "Say no to drugs", etc. Not sure I am ready to have those conversations with our daughter, but I guess its never to early to start drilling that stuff in.

Cinderella Pumpkin

Abigayle had the opportunity to make a pumpkin into her favorite storybook character for a Kindergarten fall project. She chose Cinderella--big surprise. We took it in this morning and wow, we are going to have to step up our game in the future. The project was open to all students in her school and there sure was a lot of creativity. Good Job Abi. We are proud of you.

Today we went down to the medical center to receive the results of all the tests we have put Jax through lately.
Ph Test--he has 1% acidity. Well within the normal limit. No acid reflux here. Yea!
GI Test--his esophagus is only narrowed b/c of the original surgery. He does not have any strictures and does not need any dilation procedures. Yea!
We could not have asked for any better results for a kiddo who has Esophogel Atresia. We are estactic. We go back in 2 months for a follow up appointment. We can start giving him food with more substance as long as we reinforce that he eats slow and drinks lots of liquids. We have actually already started that. Two nights ago he had chicken fried steak for dinner and last night he had pork chops. He celebrated his good test results with a Filet O Fish from McDonalds at lunch today!
